The holiday season is here and Springtown Area Chamber of Commerce representatives along with dozens of volunteers gathered Wednesday Dec. 17 to deliver packages filled with not only store-bought goods, but warmth and smiles.
For more than 30 years the chamber has hosted an Adopt-a-Senior drive, collecting donation items such as socks, pajamas, sweets and treats specifically requested by low-income seniors through Angel Wish Lists. The wish lists were set out in early November at the chamber office, allowing community members plenty of time to stop by and select their senior. Through the generosity and giving spirit of the community, 55 seniors were adopted this year — showcasing the spirit of Springtown for the chamber’s newly appointed executive director, Sharon Johnson.
“It has been such a great example of Springtown at its best … its neighbors helping other neighbors so that those seniors can feel seen and they can feel loved and appreciated,” she said. “It's been very heartwarming … and not just our seniors, but the people doing the delivering or bringing the gifts in,” Johnson added.
