Springtown girls cruise to lopsided district win as playoff race tightens

Sophomore guard Addy Burtnett paced the Lady Pines with 20 points.

Springtown’s girls basketball team overwhelmed Castleberry 77-2 in a dominant District 7-4A victory Friday, Jan. 9.

Addy Burtnett led the Lady Porcupines with 20 points as Springtown scored early and often against the Lions. Kaylee Falcon followed with 19 points, while freshman Carli Mathis added 17. Madison Mussulman chipped in 13 points, Evelyn Herrera scored six, and Mariam Kolb rounded out the scoring with two.

The win comes as the District 7-4A standings continue to tighten. No. 1-ranked Decatur leads the district with a perfect 5-0 record, followed by Krum and Burkburnett at 4-1, Bridgeport at 3-2, and Springtown at 2-3, tied with Eagle Mountain for fifth place.
