After retiring from the corporate world in 2006 Tootie Hall began volunteering in the community. Hall grew up in Birdville and Haltom City but eventually settled in Springtown, where her husband was from, in 1964.

Hall currently serves as the secretary/treasurer for Neighbor to Neighbors and for the Springtown Event Center, formerly known as the Springtown Area Senior Center.

“I pick up (food) seven days a week at Brookshire’s and at Chicken Express for Neighbors. They call that leftovers — we call it scrumptious. I pick it up and I pick up what they would normally throw in the trash. (For the event center) I work the dances on Saturday nights and work rentals if somebody wants to rent it,” Hall said.

Hall has been a member of other various organizations in Springtown including the chamber of commerce, education foundation and Legends Museum. Hall has also worked for The Azle News and the Springtown Epigraph in advertising and was an ambassador for the Azle Area Chamber of Commerce. Hall served as a trustee on the SISD school board where she enjoyed working with people in the school district.

“We’ve got some great people on the school board. Unbelievable, wonderful people in the school district. The employees in the school district and the kids are great. And if they're having challenges, they work it through,” Hall said.

For Hall, serving the community has helped shape her personality and has helped her become more tolerant in life.

“I think had I retired and stayed home, I don’t think I would have been able to tolerate enough too well. I might have tolerated to get out in public, but I wouldn’t understand serving in those capacities. You see so many different personalities that it kind of helps you see what not to be and what you need to be. And I think that helps, too, the life experiences have influenced who you are today,” Hall said.

Although Springtown has evolved since Hall moved to Springtown, she enjoys the descendants that remain within the community.

“Everything has to evolve. Everything has to change. But I feel fortunate that Springtown hasn't changed as quickly as some places. We still have a lot of our old people. We still have a lot of the people, and their descendants are here so, that's helped that the descendants have stayed here,” Hall said.

When Hall isn’t volunteering in the community, she enjoys spending time with her family — especially her grandchildren.
