The Springtown Porcupines faced a daunting stretch in District 7-4A play last week, matching up against the district’s top two teams in consecutive games.
Springtown opened the week on the road Tuesday against the Krum Bobcats, the district leader entering the night with a perfect 7-0 record. The Porcupines fell behind early and were unable to mount a comeback, dropping a 76-40 decision.
The challenge continued Thursday when weather forced Springtown’s home game against Burkburnett Bulldogs to be moved up a day. Burkburnett, ranked second in the district standings, used its depth and tempo to pull away for a 91-59 win.
Despite the losses, seniors Ayden Lugo and Louden Strickland provided steady leadership and effort as the Porcupines worked to stay competitive against two of the district’s strongest programs.
The District 7-4A slate remains demanding for Springtown, which has two more games this week. The Porcupines will host the Bridgeport Bulls before closing the week with a road trip to face the Castleberry Lions Friday, Jan. 30.
