Cold temperatures and icy conditions didn’t slow down Springtown FFA students competing in the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo heifer show, according to Springtown FFA advisor Dawson Shannon.

Several Springtown FFA members competed during the 2026 heifer show, including Lyla Cox, Zoe Sheets, Gatlin Shannon and Katie Leonard, all of whom showcased their animals despite the challenging weather.

Leonard delivered a standout performance in the Beef Heifer Challenge, which required contestants to complete a beef cattle knowledge test and present a speech. She finished second overall out of 75 contestants, earning a $14,000 scholarship.

“The weather made things tough,” Shannon said. “They represented Springtown extremely well.”

Shannon added the stock show continues through Feb. 7, and Springtown FFA members will remain active throughout the event as they continue to show animals in upcoming competitions.
