FFA students from around the area made a strong impression on one of Texas’ biggest agricultural stages, earning a combined $74,000 in scholarships through the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo’s Heifer Superintendent’s Beef Challenge.
Springtown FFA member Katherine Leonard led the way, capturing a $14,000 scholarship after placing second overall in the prestigious Beef Challenge. Leonard showed a Beefmaster heifer as part of the Junior Breeding Beef Heifer Show at the FWSSR.
The Heifer Superintendent’s Beef Challenge, organized by the Superintendents of the Junior Breeding Beef Heifer Show, is designed to test students’ knowledge of beef cattle production beyond the show ring. The competition begins with a comprehensive written exam covering a wide range of cattle production topics. Top scorers then advance to an oral presentation round, where participants deliver a two-minute speech highlighting the strengths of the heifer breed they are exhibiting.
