New logo … again?

Discussion arises over need for new city logo
New logo … again?
City council members voted Monday, Feb. 9 to adopt a new city logo, ultimately deciding on the top left corner depiction.

Through its “Reno Works” campaign, city officials have been listening to local concerns and taking action to improve city streets and quality of life for Reno residents. A branch of that campaign extended into a Feb. 9 city council meeting when the choosing of a new city logo made its way onto the agenda.

With the newly acquired patrol units scheduled to be sent offsite to have decals put on the next morning, council members had to vote on a new logo Monday night. The new logo will be a facet of the official rebranding of Reno and will appear on letterheads, uniforms and city vehicles. What should have been a simple yes or no between a set of four graphics turned into a tense debate over costs, branding and whether the city is moving too fast.

While council member Jennifer Vogle opened the discussion with her selection of logo, council member Shelli Swift stepped in to remind the room the city adopted a new logo just last year.
