For the first time in 24 years, Parker County has renewed its own symbol of “I do” after it unveiled an updated marriage license showcasing the county’s rich culture at the Parker County Commissioners Court meeting Feb. 9.
County Clerk Lila Deakle said revamping the county’s marriage certificate was something officials have been wanting to do for a long time. With the goal of creating a license that truly captured the spirit of the community, Deakle enlisted the help of local artists Judy Draper and Sherry Watters to bring their vision of Parker County’s heritage to life.
“When you think about Parker County, you think about the Peach Festival, and you think about this beautiful courthouse. Our new marriage license features the hand-drawn peaches and the ribbon from Mrs. Sherry, and this beautiful courthouse was compliments of Mrs. Judy Draper,” Deakle said, describing the artistry of the new marriage license. “These ladies volunteered their time. There was no county money spent on it. We let them have free reign … We are so proud of this, and now it’s been updated.”
