Powerlifting
The Lady Pines powerlifting team is the regional champion for the 11th straight time after competing for the title Friday, Feb. 27 in Decatur. The Lady Pines qualified 22 lifters to the state meet which will be held in Edinberg March 20.
Baseball
The Porcupine varsity baseball squad hosted its tournament Thursday Feb. 26, through Saturday, Feb. 28. The Porcupines started off slow, losing to Alvarado 4-2 and then to Godley 3-0. The Pines rebounded in the next two games, taking down North Crowley 7-0 and then taking down Dallas Molina 16-1.
The Porcupine JV also saw tournament action over the weekend, downing Braswell 9-1 and Krum 13-2. Denton High upset the Pines 11-10 and Boyd jumped on the Pines 6-0.
Softball
Lady Pines softball traveled to Azle Tuesday Feb. 24 and shut the Lady Hornets down 6-0. Kylee Spray was the winning pitcher, going five innings with the shutout. Sagelyn Jacobson hit two home runs against Azle. Next the Lady Pines hosted their tournament, thrashing Benbrook 19-0 in the first game. Game 2 saw the Lady Pines destroy Arlington Heights 8-0. There were several standout performances including a no-hitter by Kaylee Falcon against TCA and a combined perfect game by pitchers Kylee Spray and Jayci Notgrass against Arlington Heights. Homerun hitters in the tournament were Kylee Spray, Kaylee Falcon and Reiss de la Fuente. Senior pitcher Kaylee Spray also picked up her 500 career strikeout.
Soccer
Porcupine varsity soccer had a very rough week in District 8-4A last week. The Porcupines dropped a 5-1 decision to Eagle Mountain and then fell to Lake Dallas 8-0.
The Lady Pines varsity soccer team did not fare much better, dropping 1-0 to Eagle Mountain and then 8-0 to Lake Dallas.
Golf
The Lady Porcupines golf team opened the spring season at the District 7-4A preview at Turtle Hill. Dixie Mae Crain finished with a tournament best 3 under 69. The Lady Pines finished third overall with a 446 team score. Avery Miller, Kaslynn St. Pierre and Tristen Finchum round out the remainder of the girls squad.
The Porcupine Varsity boys’ team finished sixth overall with a combined score of 367. Ernie Dallas finished eighth with team best 79. Rhett Thomas fired an 85 in his first varsity tournament. Edgar Barrera, Eli Thetford and Louden Strickland round out the Pines squad.
The Lady Pines golf team also played at Oakmont Country Club Monday, March 2. Dixie Mae Crain shot 74 on the day. Bryell Pitts, Kaslynn St. Pierre and Tristen Finchum rounded out the team.
The Porcupine Varsity boys team placed 13th out of 67 schools at Oakmont Country Club. Ernie Dallas finished with a solid 80 on the score card. Edgar Barrera, Eli Thetford, Rhett Thomas and Louden Strickland make up the remainder of the Porcupine squad.
Track and Field
The Lady Pines track and field team is the girls team champion of the Mineral Wells Rams Relays held Friday, Feb. 27. Gold Medal winners were Kaylee Sweeney in both the 100- and 300-hurdle and Kylee McNeely in the discus. Madelyn Walker placed second in the 3,200-meter run and was a member of the second place 400-meter relay team.
The Lady Pines JV squad was also the team champion in the Mineral Wells JV division. The ladies had six first-place finishers including Caroline Dittmar who won four gold medals.
The Porcupine Boys Varsity track team participated in the Mineral Wells Rams Relays Friday, Feb. 27. The Porcupines placed third overall with 88 team points. Cashton Parker won the 110-meter hurdles, Pilot Grubbs won the 300-meter hurdles and the 1,600-meter relay was won by the Porcupines.
The Porcupine JV track team won the Mineral Wells Relays with 174 total points. The first place 400-meter relay team is made up of Teagan Hair, Jaxon Green, Nick Garcia and Gage Hernandez.
