March 2–6 marks Newspapers in Education Week, a time to recognize the important role newspapers play in strengthening our communities and supporting education.
As a communications director, I have the privilege of working closely with local media, and I see firsthand how impactful a community newspaper can be. A local paper does far more than share headlines. It tells the story of our town. It celebrates student achievements, highlights programs, informs families about important decisions, and preserves the moments that shape who we are as a community.
In public education, that partnership matters. When our students are recognized, when our teachers’ work is highlighted, and when our community stays informed about district initiatives, it builds transparency and trust. It helps families feel connected and engaged.
