On March 12, 160 Springtown Elementary School kindergarten students took the stage at the SES gym and performed some of their favorite musical activities from the school year.
The spring program started with a special performance from the fourth grade Orff Ensemble featuring xylophones. Then all the kindergartners greeted the audience with a hello song, “I’m So Glad To Be Here” before Ms. Guerrero’s class played along to the song, “Tap Your Sticks” with rhythm sticks. Mrs. Chaney’s class took the stage and played “Shake-A My Egg” with egg shakers. The rhythm sticks and egg shakers are two of the first instruments kindergartners learn how to use. After Mrs. Chaney’s class, the rest of the five kindergarten classes including Ms. Coffman, Mrs. Parker, Mrs. Westerhaus, Mrs. Corvera and Mrs. Kincade’s classes took the stage before the kindergartners said goodbye to the audience with their closing song, “Skidamarinkadink.”
“Those (the songs the students performed) are their favorite songs that we have done in the classroom rather than having them just stand and sing songs that we would perform one time. They love doing the parachute, they love doing instruments, they love doing ribbons, and Mr. Stretchy (a stretch band). I wanted to highlight what we do in the classroom versus just putting on a show for the parents,” music teacher Sally McPhetrige said.
