Springtown High School’s Lady Porcupine powerlifting team closed its season with another strong performance, finishing third at the Texas High School Powerlifting Association State Meet after placing fifth the previous two years.
The race for the team championship was extremely close, with only five points separating the top three teams. Port Lavaca Calhoun won the state title with 33 points, followed by Beeville Jones with 29 points and Springtown with 28 points. The third-place finish marked a return to the podium for the Lady Porcupines and was the result of a total team effort.
Sophomore Bella Weaver made history by winning the state championship in the 242-pound weight class. Weaver steadily increased her totals throughout the season, beginning the year with an 860-pound total and finishing with an impressive 1,010 pounds at state. She also broke the school deadlift record with a 345-pound lift.
