Carrie Reed grew up on the outskirts of Springtown and graduated from Springtown High School in 1950. After she got married, she remained and raised all four of her children in Springtown.
After her daughter was born in 1963, Reed began working at Montgomery Ward — a major department store chain that closed in 2001 — as a hotshot, a person who fills orders on roller skates by placing them on a conveyor belt. While she was working at Montgomery Ward, she met a lady whose husband was running for Parker County Clerk. The lady’s husband asked Reed if working for the county was something she was interested in. She began working for the county in 1971, and after the lady’s husband resigned in 1977, Reed was appointed to the office of Parker County Clerk. She was elected to the position three times, and served until her retirement in 1993.
As the Parker County Clerk, she managed all property records, birth certificates, death certificates and issued marriage licenses. She was also in charge of the Parker County elections.
