Porcupines’ playoff run ends in regional semifinals
Springtown High School senior Layton Murrell was named District 7-4A Offensive Player of the Year for 2026.

The Springtown High School baseball season came to an end in the Class 4A Region I semifinals as the Porcupines fell to Canyon West Plains in a best-of-three playoff series at Midland Greenwood High School.

Springtown battled throughout the series but dropped Game 1 Thursday, May 14, by a 5-4 score. Layton Murrell led the Porcupines offensively with two hits and an RBI in the loss.

Senior pitcher Kaden Howard turned in a strong outing, pitching six innings while striking out eight batters. West Plains, however, managed eight hits and held on late for the victory.
