A new, bright pink stand honoring Athena Presley Monroe Strand stands at Bobo Crossing in Wise County, near Boyd. It sits near the creek and bridge where the 7-year-old’s lifeless body was found in December 2022.
In April, Tanner Horner pleaded guilty to murdering Strand after delivering a package to her home near Cottondale. Horner was sentenced to death by lethal injection.
The new stand is pink, which was Athena’s favorite color and the original large pink cross that was erected a few years ago was placed in the center of the stand. The stand is filled with items left by community members such as flowers, dolls and stuffed animals. Members of the community have also painted the bridge railings pink in honor of Athena.
