Lewis named Best Lifter

Summer offers a break from competition for many high school athletes, but not for the Springtown High School girls powerlifting team.

Three Lady Porcupine lifters competed July 17 at Sherman High School in a United States High School Powerlifting Association meet, where Grace Lewis earned the title Best Lifter of the Meet.

The USHSPA is a new federation that provides additional competition opportunities for middle school and high school athletes outside the UIL season. Unlike the Texas High School Women's Powerlifting Association, which oversees the UIL-affiliated season, the association hosts offseason meets where athletes can continue training, set personal records and compete against lifters from across the state.
