At its Monday, July 20 board meeting, Walnut Creek Special Utility District officials said recent watering restrictions were implemented to prevent mechanical failure after daily water use sharply increased.

Assistant General Manager Perry Day provided a report explaining the reason behind the Stage 3 watering restrictions issued to residents earlier this month.

According to the report, daily water use increased approximately 900,000 gallons beginning July 1, rising from approximately 4.5 million gallons per day to 5.4 mgd.
