A Dallas man who dragged a Hudson Oaks police officer with his vehicle before fleeing from police was sentenced to 55 years in a state penitentiary by a Parker County jury Wednesday, Aug. 12.
The jury found Jose Gonzales, 51, guilty of assault on a peace officer and evading arrest in a vehicle and sentenced him to 55 years in prison for the assault offense and 17 years for the evading arrest charge. By law, the sentences run concurrently.
According to a news release from the Parker County District Attorney’s Office, police responded to a 911 call alerting dispatchers that Gonzales was driving erratically and traveling west in the eastbound lanes of Fort Worth Highway. They encountered Gonzales in the H-E-B grocery store parking lot. When he refused to put the vehicle in park and it started moving, an officer opened his door and tried to put his foot on the vehicle’s brake. Gonzales accelerated, dragging the officer to the end of the parking lot before the officer was thrown clear of the vehicle.
