City weighs new police facility, animal shelter expansion

The Springtown City Council is considering whether to move forward with a previously planned modular animal shelter or build a new police facility, convert the current police station into additional animal control space and continue using the existing animal shelter.

During the Aug. 27 council meeting, City Administrator David Miller said a new modular police facility could cost about $1.5 million, plus roughly $300,000 to $400,000 for furniture, fixtures and equipment, bringing the estimated total to $1.8 million to $2 million.

Miller said a previous site-built animal shelter of about 4,000 square feet had been estimated at about $4.3 million, which is one reason the council is considering less expensive alternatives.
