In 1972, President Richard Nixon signed Proclamation 4157 recognizing the dedication of coaches at all levels. The proclamation established National Coaches Day, now observed each year Oct. 6.

To recognize the day locally, The Springtown Epigraph talked with Tayler Jones, a football, powerlifting and track coach at Springtown ISD. Jones also teaches sixth-grade preathletics at Springtown Intermediate School.

Jones graduated from Crandall High School in 2008, where he competed in football, baseball, powerlifting and track.
