Hamburgers weren’t the only thing Police Officer Rudy “Big Monty” Montgomery served up — he also brought plenty of smiles while grilling hamburgers during National Night Out Oct. 6.

Springtown residents gathered at Newby Pavilion Oct. 6 for National Night Out, an event that gave the community a chance to meet local police officers, firefighters and EMS personnel in a relaxed community setting.

City event coordinator and administrative service manager Rachele Ortega told the Springtown Epigraph the event gave children an opportunity to meet first responders in a welcoming setting.

“During an emergency, children may feel scared or overwhelmed. Sharing a meal, asking questions and having fun together helps them see the people behind the uniforms and understand that they are here to help,” Ortega said.
