Springtown City Council member Michelle Chandler Kelley organized and held a protest in front of the Springtown Animal Shelter related to a fostered kitten, which ultimately led to her verbal reprimand by the council.
The protest started at 4:30 p.m. and lasted a couple of hours, with supporters showing up in support of Kelley and a kitten she had fostered since February that was no longer in her custody.
Earlier in the day, Kelley took to Facebook to post she had been fostering a kitten for the animal shelter since Feb. 9. The kitten weighed 59 grams when she first received her and has been slowly brought to health. Kelley said on Facebook that Springtown Animal Control Officer Maddy Gould and City Administrator David Miller decided Kelley was no longer allowed to foster the kitten and neither would she be allowed to adopt her. Kelley also claimed the kitten was going to be put down that day if the vet, Dr. Ami Traver of Elite Equine & Small Animal of Springtown, agreed.
