Reno remains after narrow vote

A mere 26 votes determined the future of the city of Reno as voters took to the polls over the last two weeks.

Proposition B in the city’s special election, abolishing the corporate existence of the city of Reno, failed with 421 votes for the proposition and 447 votes against it. With an estimated population of around 3,000 people, including children, 868 Reno voters decided the fate of the city.

An effort by proponents of disincorporation included two separate citizen petitions and several years to get the proposition on the ballot. The measure was met with opposition from elected officials and others that ranged from social media posts to signs, billboards and a website encouraging voters not to support the disincorporation.
