From concert halls to classrooms, Scot McPhetrige’s dedication to his students has struck a chord, earning the title of Teacher of the Year. Springtown High School announced McPhetrige as its Teacher of the Year and Springtown ISD Secondary Teacher of the Year. McPhetrige is the band director for the SHS band “Sound of Springtown.” Since this is his 20-year anniversary as band director at SHS, McPhetrige admitted he was surprised to receive this prestigious honor.
“I was surprised because I spend a lot of time in the band hall,” McPhetrige said. “It’s nice to receive recognition and it’s not just me but our whole band staff. We put in a lot of time and I’m hoping to be able to share some of that recognition with the rest of the staff. I’m the most visible as the band director but everybody else is working hard and doing what they can to make this program as successful as it is.”
Growing up in the small town of Alvin, south of Houston, McPhetrige said he always a deep love for music. He decided to join band and play the cornet in the sixth grade.
