Every Tuesday at 9.m., women from all walks of life, age, creed and religion gather together to break bread with each other. The Springtown Area Coffee and Friends is a women’s group that was started last year by Ursula Riddle to invite women in the Springtown area to commune with one another and to build relationships. Judy McGahey has been attending the morning get-togethers for some time and loves the camaraderie.
“We all got together and decided to start this and nobody really runs it,” McGahey said. “We say prayers for each other and it’s an amazing thing. It’s women connecting.”
For the last three months, the group has been meeting at the Springtown Area Senior Center with the permission of Tootie Hall who manages the space. Previously, the women had been meeting at Pojo Coffee Shop on the square but feel the senior center is bigger and the ladies can bring delicious and homemade breakfast and lunch foods. From homemade biscuits to different flavored homemade quiches, to authentic Mexican dishes — there is no shortage of food at these meetings. Because the group is diverse in age and everyone is in different stages of life, sometimes kids and little ones are in attendance.
