McCanless describes public works department’s role, responsibilities

Springtown native Joseph McCanless has been an integral part of the city’s transformation and a key factor in new city developments. McCanless began his career in 2015 when he was hired by the parks and recreation department at the age of 20. Then he moved to utilities and was later hired by the city to do their building inspections.

“I started studying and training to do building inspections and did that for a couple of years,” McCanless said. “Then the public works director job became open and I applied for it.” Mc-Canless wanted to work his whole life and never found college appealing.
