Unique mascot names define Texas towns
Around Texas, high school mascots serve as emblems of hometown pride — even if some may raise eyebrows from outsiders. The Springtown Porcupines, with their unmistakable “Quill up!” rallying cry, are often labeled a curious mascot choice by those unfamiliar with the town’s traditions.
But Springtown isn’t alone. Just down the road in Weatherford, the Kangaroos hop into the Friday night spotlight. To the southeast, the Lake Worth Bullfrogs proudly croak their way through district play. Travel to central Texas, and you’ll find the Frost Polar Bears — a name that seems out of place in the state’s summer heat.
