Springtown ISD rolled out a new policy regarding a new state law, House Bill 1481, which requires all communications devices to be put away during school hours. The district issued a statement June 24 after Gov. Greg Abbott signed the law into effect.

“While the law provides some flexibility for districts in how to implement the ban, such as allowing use during extracurricular activities or providing secure storage options, Springtown ISD is currently reviewing what implementation will look like on our campuses.” the statement read. The statement concluded saying the district will reveal details of the policy once administration and the board of trustees approve the new policy. The statement was posted on the Springtown ISD Facebook page; parents and guardians commented with mixed reactions to the new policy, with some in favor of taking away distractions during school and others wanting their children to be able to contact them during school hours if an emergency happens.

On July 28, Springtown ISD Director of Operations Micheal Chavez told the Springtown ISD board of trustees he and his staff sat down with teachers and principals to talk about how to implement this new law into the classroom.
