Lilly takes reins in Reno

Former Brown County judge takes on roles of city administrator, director of public safety

It’s a new day in Reno after the city officially hired and swore in its new city administrator and director of public safety, former Brown County judge Paul Lilly, who has a doctorate in forensic psychology and criminology. On the spur of the moment, Reno Mayor Hector Bas administered the oath of office to Lilly after the council meeting was over. The terms and conditions of Lilly’s contract were approved by the council during the last portion of the council meeting.

Reno council members, before this meeting, were worried the city might not have enough money in the budget for a city administrator. But after some reconfiguration of the 2024-2025 budget done by council member Kevin Vandenberg, the council was able to add a line item in the budget for a city administrator/ director of public safety.
