The Springtown High School FFA chapter will offer a new activity after the Springtown ISD board of trustees approved the creation of a clay shoot club. During an Aug. 11 special board meeting, the trustees discussed the idea of approving the sport after first hearing its advocacy from agriculture teacher Roy Stevens. Stevens first spoke to the board April 28 about the possibility of adding a clay shooting club after he was approached by multiple parents. Board President Chris Gilley explained why the decision about whether to incorporate this club into the Springtown FFA chapter was delayed.
“We delayed taking action on this because the concerns around our liability surrounding such a club,” Gilley said. “Since then, we have gotten a ton of information. Mr. Liles, with his insurance background, has taken the lead on all these things.”
Gilley asked trustee Damon Liles to present his findings about district’s liability when it comes to minors using shotguns.
