Chamber readies for 41st Wild West Festival

BBQ cook-off sees 26th year

With the kids back in school and the fall season around the corner, Springtown is gearing up for the biggest festival of the year. The Wild West Festival is a decades long tradition that comes around the third Saturday of every September, celebrating 40 years in 2024. Going on 41 years now, the activities featured at this historic event are endless. From the 200-plus vendors, the largest annual parade in town, thrilling gunfights, a children’s area, live music and barbeque cook-off, this family-friendly event is filled with endless options of activities fit for the whole family.

A special tradition now in its 26th year is the barbeque cook-off. This Champions Barbecue Alliance sanctioned event will be located on Martin Avenue in Springtown Park right behind Brookshires. The entry fee is $200 per team and only one team is allowed per pit. The winners of the cook-off will receive $10,500 guaranteed prize money. The four meat categories, in which anyone can participate, are chicken, ribs, pork butt and brisket. The pits will be judged on pit design, best looking pit and poor boy pit. The jackpot categories featured are beans, steak and dessert. The steak competition entry fee is $50, beans entry fee is $20 and the dessert fee is $20. Steak will be judged Friday night and dessert and beans categories will be judged Saturday morning. The jackpot prizes are a 75% payout of all jackpot entry fees and a belt buckle for the steak jackpot winner.
