Hispanic Heritage Month is observed annually from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15. Each fall, it becomes a vibrant celebration of color. Bright flags, festive music, bold art and rich traditions fill communities across the country. But beyond the festivities, it’s a powerful tribute to identity and resilience, honoring generations who have carved out space, preserved culture, and inspired change in communities everywhere.
The terms Hispanic, Latino and the more recent Latinx refer to a person’s cultural background or origin, not their race. According to the U.S.
Census, individuals are classified as Hispanic, Latino or Spanish if they identified as having Mexican, Mexican American, Chicano, Puerto Rican, Cuban or another Hispanic, Latino or Spanish origin.
