The city of Reno has decided to contract with Parker County Emergency Services District 1 for fire protection services and coverage. On Sept. 15, Reno city council approved City Administrator Paul Lilly and Parker County ESD 1 to enter a short- or long-term contract to go into effect Oct. 1. PCESD1 Chief Watson spoke to the council and gave an update to the possibility of gaining access to the Briar-Reno Fire Department station next to City Hall.
“Over the weekend, Chief Druxman and I spoke on the phone and we’re working on an agreement to hopefully purchase the fire station next door,” Watson said. “I am really happy that they’re willing to work together on that.”
Watson said he thinks it would be great for the Reno community to keep a fire department in the same building. The next steps for ESD 1 are to get board approval and the same for BRFD. Watson did mention he is working with Parker County and Tarrant County dispatch centers to realign how information will be distributed as well as how mapping is cued up to respond to 9-1-1 calls.
