On Saturday, Sept. 27, First United Methodist Church hosted its annual Lord’s Acre, a day filled with family fun and fellowship. The event featured horse rides, bounce houses, a silent and live auction, delicious food, and a variety of vendor booths offering canned goods, baked treats and handmade crafts.

This tradition dates back to the early days when families would dedicate a portion of their crops, such as an acre of cotton or peanuts, to the church. The proceeds from these gifts helped support church ministries, fund building projects, and provide for various community programs. That spirit continues today, with all funds raised going directly to support the church’s ministries, and everything sold at the vendor booths handmade by church members themselves.

“My favorite part definitely is the fellowship, because we come together for one purpose and one cause, and then we use our proceeds to support our ministries,” said co-chair of the Lord’s Acre Andrea Hungerford. “One of our big ministries is the snack packs. So, on Thursday, we provide snacks to three different schools, Springtown Elementary, Springtown Intermediate School and Goshen Creek Elementary, for those students that need that service and support.”
