Ryder Holderness may only be in the eighth grade at Springtown Middle School, but he’s already proving to be a “cut above the rest” — at least in cooking steak.

The 13-year-old set a “prime” example at the Wild West Festival Sept. 20, when he was awarded second place in the steak competition — taking home a second-place banner and $150.

“I was pretty shocked, honestly,” Ryder told the Springtown Epigraph. “I mean, it was pretty good steak, but yeah, I was really shocked. It was funny because in my head, I was saying, ‘Yep, I’m going to get it right here,’ and I got it.”
