SHS Homecoming 2025

Spirit Week kicks off with HOCO parade and ceremony
SHS Homecoming 2025

The 2025 SHS homecoming parade marched its way down Pojo Road Monday, Sept.29 as a sea of orange and black flooded the path from Goshen Creek Elementary to Porcupine Stadium.

Students, staff and proud POJO parents kicked off homecoming week with the start of the annual parade followed by the pep rally and the Lighting of the Letters ceremony. The Lighting of the Letters ceremony is a long-standing tradition where students gather around the letters “SHS” as they are lit on fire — not only igniting pieces of cloth, but also that POJO school spirit. This year proved extra special because after many years of wear and tear, students enrolled in the Welding II class were tasked to build a new set of letters — a feat they were able to complete in three days. Upon completion, they wrapped those steel initials in old T-shirts and got them ready for the night’s bonfire.

As the flames cast a backdrop, the chants of the crowd rose just as high as the shadows, setting the precedent for the upcoming spirit week. Once the cheers came to a quiet lull, firefighters standing by began extinguishing the flames — giving the new steel letters a break until next year.
