Sheriff: Beware scams, fraud as complaints rise

A recent uptick in scam and fraud complaints has caused the Parker County Sheriff’s Office to alert citizens of the ongoing threat these crimes pose.

Parker County Sheriff Russ Authier said fraudulent callers are contacting citizens by phone seeking payments for outstanding warrants or for missing jury duty.

These are scam attempts and may appear to be legitimate. Criminals are fraudulently attempting to gain payment or access to your bank account and personal information. Some complainants reported unknown suspects make contact by phone claiming the sheriff’s office has issued a warrant for the victim’s arrest as a result of missing jury duty. The scammer then requires payment from the victim in order to “clear” the arrest warrant from the system. Certain victims reported their caller ID has been “spoofed” to appear that the call is coming from the sheriff’s office main phone line.
