The Parker County Commissioners Court officially declared October 2025 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month Oct. 13 — but the local statistics alone prove just how critical the issue has become in the growing community.
According to Victim Assistance Coordinator Lisa Mehrhoff, approximately 40% of all crime in Parker County can be attributed to domestic violence.
“I have 17 (protective orders) on my desk right now. They’re coming in every single day,” Mehrhoff said. “There’s no less than half a dozen people that come in and think they need a protective order … We hear the story, we listen to it, and then we figure out what the best recourse for them is. But, you know, 18 years ago when I started, it was one a month, one every other month — and now, it’s hundreds a year.”
