City council members met Thursday evening to discuss a much talked about topic among Springtown residents regarding the feeding of felines within city limits and Mayor Mike Kelley did not hesitate to quickly address the subject.

“I think most of you are here related to an ordinance related to our animal control and I think if we move that item to the very beginning of tonight’s meeting and let us talk about it and you guys can hear and then if there are questions, you can come to the podium and speak with some knowledge about what is fact and what is fiction,” he said.

City leaders made their way into a room full of feline friends ready to take over the podium with lingering questions about the passing of last month’s animal control ordinance. Since then, rumors had been circulating that the city would no longer allow the feeding of feral cats — a topic some residents did not take lightly and one that City Administrator David Miller made clear was not the case.
