The owner of Custom Thread Arts, Karin Joiner, works with both the Azle ISD Transition Center and the Springtown ISD Transition Center to help teach job skills to post-secondary students with disabilities.
Joiner began her partnership with the Azle ISD Transition Center and the Springtown ISD Transition Center in 2023. The partnership with Springtown ISD began through a friendship between one of the district’s speech therapists and Joiner. The partnership with Azle ISD started when Amy Worthy, who was the transition center teacher at the time and now serves as the district’s transition specialist, reached out to local businesses to find opportunities for her students.
“When I started, I just ventured out into the community, basically went door to door, to anyone who was in close vicinity to our campus, and just kind of told them about our program and let them know kind of what we were looking for, that we were there to provide these services for these students, and Karen basically said ‘this is a gift from God and I definitely want to be involved,’” Worthy said. “Karin had some connections with individuals with disabilities throughout her life. She just felt like it was a calling, and she's been a very valuable business for our students.”
