For Matt Morgan, joining the military wasn’t part of a lifelong plan. It was a choice born out of necessity and love for his growing family.

“It was really for my family. I was still kind of in college, and we had already had one baby and had another one on the way, so I kind of had to make a decision on a new career that would provide some stability and some structure and just had great benefits for the family. So my family was the biggest motivator for me in joining the military,” Morgan said.

In 2005, Morgan was a fourth-year junior at Texas Tech. He had changed majors multiple times, from music performance to business to music education. That same year, he married his wife Ashley, and they had their first daughter, Madison, in October. When they learned they were expecting a second child, Kaitlyn, Morgan knew it was time to make a major life decision.
