The highly anticipated Halloween showdown between Springtown and Decatur lived up to the hype, and the Porcupines left no doubt who rules Farm-to-Market Road 51. Springtown rolled to a 63-36 victory Friday night to secure its second straight District 5-4A Division I championship and complete its first undefeated regular season since 1988.
The win was historic in more ways than one. Head coach Brian Hulett notched his 99th career victory at Springtown, passing former coach Bill Reed for the most in program history.
The first half was an offensive display, with both teams trading scores seemingly at will. Springtown led 35-30 at halftime before the Porcupine defense clamped down, allowing just six points in the second half.
