Parker County voters reject bond proposals for jail expansion, justice center

Voters deliver overwhelming response

With elections having wrapped up Tuesday, Nov. 4, Parker County residents have made their choices regarding two propositions that were on the ballot this election. Below is a brief breakdown, along with the results:

PROPOSITION A

Proposition A was for bonds in the amount of $104,755,000 to facilitate the expansion of the county jail, funded by a property tax increase to cover the principal and interest. The 124,000-square-foot planned expansion was to be rolled out in two phases, each adding additional beds, increasing the jail’s capacity to a total of 1,203. During an Oct. 13 meeting, the Parker County Commissioners Court proposed a new location for the county jail expansion in an effort to save taxpayer money.
