The season of giving is just around the corner, and the city of Springtown is gearing up for its annual Adopt-a-Senior Citizen tradition at the Springtown Area Chamber of Commerce office, 112 S. Main St. in Springtown. Each year the chamber sets up its festive tree full of senior wish lists and invites community members to stop by to adopt a senior citizen.

For more than 30 years, the Springtown chamber has hosted the drive to help bring a little of the holiday spirit to low-income residents by fulfilling their wish lists, often consisting of modest items such as pajamas, sweatsuits or candy. While their requests may be filled with small items, each year the chambers sees the community come together in a big way — giving back to those same individuals who helped build the community but now find themselves in need.

“Springtown takes care of its own. There are elderly people here in our community who don’t have family, or maybe family in another state, but they have serious needs. They need help,” Chamber President Kim Ware said.
