Six students were awarded their high school diplomas by Porcupine Academy Principal Andrew Horis Monday Nov. 17 as friends, family and peers cheered them on.
Porcupine Academy is Springtown ISD’s fully online educational program that caters to non-traditional students seeking a fast-paced alternative to earning their diploma for various reasons such as family obligations, work commitments or being at risk of dropping out. Once enrolled, staff works with each student to develop a tailored plan, meeting their needs with flexibility and understanding, so long as the student meets certain requirements.
The day’s recipients included Raina Brown, Choavez “Julian” Robinson, Kayele Pollard and three students who were unable to attend due to other obligations — Emily Alvarez, Daryn Wilkinson and Vincent Licause. Horis acknowledged that among this group there was a student who works multiple jobs, one who immediately enrolled in trade school following the program, and another who enlisted in the U.S. Air Force — all a testament to their motivation, dedication and hard work.
