The city of Reno held its pre-Thanksgiving council meeting Monday, Nov. 24, where new city employees brought fresh ideas and existing endeavors are on hold due to property lines and permits.

After a brief discussion about the financial report, council members moved on to the topic of the annexation of State Highway 199 from the city’s western city limits to Parker County Road 1402 and from Reno’s eastern city limits to Sanctuary; however, that agenda item was tabled at the request of City Administrator Paul Lilly after he received a second petition from the Texas Department of Transportation.

Another acquisition is that of the property at 4300 East State Highway 199 — a vacant area in Reno of approximately 8.018 acres that is pending purchase by 7-Eleven Inc. During discussion, questions of property lines, city service responsibilities and water supply were raised. Because the open land is privately owned, it requires two public hearings; as a result, no action was taken on the motion. However, this gave new Public Works Director Jeremy Matthews an opportunity to answer questions and shed light on upcoming projects.
