James Edwin Tillery

James Edwin Tillery, 90, of Springtown, passed into the arms of Jesus Friday, April 3, 2026, in Fort Worth.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, April 7, at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel located at 913 North Elm St. in Weatherford.

A funeral service will be held at the funeral chapel at 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 8; Rev. G.W. McDowell will officiate. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Peoria Cemetery, located at 2421 Farm-to-Market Road 1947 in Hillsboro.

He was born March 5, 1936, to Noma Pearl and James Monroe Tillery in Tin Top. He worked as a gasoline hauler for Browder and Browder in his early career. Later, he became a carpet installer for Whitworth Carpet Company.

Inspired by his love of fishing and "all things boating," he became owner of Silver Minnow Bait and Tackle and Benbrook Marina. After retirement, he enjoyed the outdoors, especially working with his many cows.

He married Dorthy Marie Hines Sept. 25, 1954. Together, they reared four children.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his infant daughter, Janet Lynn; his wife of 59 years, Dorthy; and his brothers, Gene and J.R. Tillery.

He is survived by children: Larry Tillery of Springtown, Kathy Tillery of Lakeside, and Theresa Tillery and Paula Tillery, both of Weatherford; granddaughters, Amber Clowdus and Kelley Yuhas, both of Fort Worth; brother, Sam Tillery and wife, Mae, of Mt. Ida, Arkansas; numerous other family members; and countless friends who all loved him deeply.
