Richard Pettigrew of Springtown passed away peacefully at his residence Sept. 27, 2026, surrounded by family and friends.

No service is planned.

He was born July 29, 1942, to parents R.C. and Montene (Kelly) Pettigrew.

Richard served In the U.S. Army from 1960-1963. He started his career as a truck driver, driving for Red Bal and later for Coca-Cola. Later in his career, he spent some time in law enforcement. He loved to hunt and ride motorcycles.

He was preceded in death by his father, R.C. Pettigrew, mother Montene Matzinger and brother Ronnie Pettigrew.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife Karen, daughter Kristi Pettigrew Varner Smith; sons Ronald, Clay and Chase; six grandchildren, with a special bond and love for granddaughter Alexis Pettigrew; four great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Bonnie Pettigrew and Beverly “Sunshine” Simpson and nephews; and extended family members. He also had a couple of true friends.
