The Springtown City Council and Springtown ISD board of trustees have canceled their upcoming elections because all candidates who filed to run are unopposed.
For the city, the cancellation is expected to save approximately $5,000 to $7,000 in election costs in addition to an estimated 80 to 100 staff hours typically required for election administration. This marks the first cancellation since 2022. Council members Ted Martinez in Place 1, David Martin in Place 3 and Scott Richardson in Place 5 will serve an additional two-year term after they are deemed to be re-elected following the election.
The school district also canceled its election since both candidates for office are unopposed. Terms will take effect May 18. Place 4 trustee Chris Gilley filed for re-election and will remain in his seat. Place 5 trustee Gary Veazey did not seek another term; however Maegan South filed to run for Place 5 and will assume the seat.
