The city of Springtown has proclaimed April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month in the city following a proclamation by Mayor Mike Kelley during the March 26 city council meeting.
“And whereas 2026 marks the 25th anniversary of ‘Sexual Assault Awareness Month,’ this year’s theme, ’25 Years Stronger — Looking Back, Moving Forward,’ celebrates the resilience of survivors in the communities that have worked for change,” Kelley said. “Jointly, we can publicly support victims, share educational information about assault and online harassment and take a strong stance against victim-blaming comments. Therefore, I, Mike Kelley, mayor of the city of Springtown, do hereby proclaim April 2026 as ‘Sexual Assault Awareness Month’ in the city of Springtown.”
According to the National Sexual Violence Resource Center, while 2026 marks the 25th anniversary of recognizing April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month in the United States, efforts to raise awareness and prevent sexual violence date back many years.
